Johor Bahru – Asian Conference on Electrical Discharge (ACED 2012) organized by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Institute of High Voltage & High Current (IVAT) held its 16th conference at the ZON Regency Hotel, Johor Bahru, Johor on 10 December – 12 December 2012.

• Dr. Toan Phung from University of New South Wales, Australia
• Professor Guan-Jun Zhang from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China.
• Assoc. Professor Dr. Zulkurnain Abdul Malek from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
A number of 75 papers have been presented covering various topics of electrical discharges such as overvoltage, electrical insulation, plasma and discharge, partial discharge phenomena and measurement, condition monitoring and diagnostics, electrical insulation and electromagnetic field measurement. 75 participants from various countries have participated in this conference with most of them are from Japan (23 participants), Sweden (2 participants), China (8 participants), Indonesia (3 participants), India (2 participants) and Malaysia (37 participants). Aside from the conference, the event was preceded by an International Steering Committee meeting after the ACED 2012 opening ceremony. The International Steering Committee of ACED is represented by 11 representatives from top universities in Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Korea and Pakistan.
A dinner ceremony to welcome all participants was held on the 10th December officiated by Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Azraai Kassim, a UTM Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation).
