JOHOR BAHRU, 19th. January: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will offer a nuclear engineering bachelor degree starting from its 2012/2013 academic session.

UTM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang said, the growing demand for alternative energy has propelled the university to introduce the course.

“Many countries have shifted to nuclear energy due to the decreasing supply and increasing price of on fossil fuel,” he said.

He was speaking during a press conference for the announcement of UTM’s newly appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) at the Senate Hall today.

Dr. Zaini said, that the introduction of this course will provide opportunities for students to explore the field of nuclear technology and to produce skilled workforce to match the needs of the country.

“The course which was plann

ed two years ago has received approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and a total of 30 students will be selected beginning from September 2012 intake.

Candidates qualified for the course will have to undergo a stringent admission requirement and through screening procedures by UTM and other related agencies.
