UTM Chemical Engineering programme secured the top 200 spot in world rankings, and is the top 20 chemical engineering school in ASIA.  The ranking is based on academic peer review (30%) employability (30%) and citation (40%).

In the 2011 QS world university rankings, UTM chemical engineering programme prominently features as one of the world’s top 200 universities in the field of chemical engineering.

UTM Faculty of Chemical Engineering (UTM-FChE) Dean, Prof Dr Zainuddin Abdul Manan said that the faculty prides itself in developing well-rounded and globally competent human capital in chemical engineering as well as in specialised chemical-bioprocess and chemical-polymer programmes.

He cited the current UTM-Vice Chancellor, Prof Dato’ Dr Ir Zaini Ujang who was the recipient of the nation’s Merdeka Award for the Outstanding Scholastic Achievement category as one of the finest examples of the FChE alumni.

Four globally prominent institutes and centres of excellence are the core of UTM-FChE strengths in transforming the university, contributing towards the nation’s aspiration to become  a high income economy, particularly via the development of innovative technologies in bioproduct and processes, green technology as well as energy and water resource security.

These institutes and centres of excellence include the Institute of Bioproduct Development, IBD (formerly known as Chemical Engineering Pilot plant, or CEPP), Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), Centre for Life Sciences and Applied Engineering Research (CLEAR) and the Institute of Hydrogen Economy (IHE).
