“Meet The Biosciences Experts” at Sutera Good Earth Exhibition

The Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, UTM demonstrated a few series of workshops during the Sutera Good Earth Exhibition 2019 which was conducted at Sutera Mall in Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai from 13 until 29 September 2019; with the joint cooperation by the Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIP). The workshops conducted by the Bioscience Experts include:

1. “Artificial Tree Using Marine Microalgae” by Dr. Mohd Farizal Ahmad Kamaroddin
2. “Kitchen Waste for Greener Earth” by Dr Alina Wagiran
3. “Composting Pallet” by Dr. Huszalina Hussin
4. “Bacteria Application in Waste Composting” by Nurul Asshequeen Mohd Nazam

MoU Renewal between UTM and IKM for the Advancement of Chemistry Professions in Malaysia

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has maintained its established collaborations with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM), a statutory professional organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change (MESTECC). Since the first MoU signing between UTM and IKM in the year of 2009, many joint activities have been organised between the institutions. These cover a whole range of professional, educational, social and promotional activities in chemistry. Among others are the academic and professional lectures, academic curriculum advisory, UTM Convocation Award and Johor Chemistry Carnival (Karnival Kimia Johor).

My Journey as an Amgen Scholar

I am currently a third-year undergraduate student at the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, UTM. I have had the privilege to participate in the prestigious research internship program called the Amgen Scholars Program at Kyoto University in Japan, which was held from 10th June till 5th August 2019. Amgen is a multinational biopharmaceutical company which is based in California. The company provides opportunities for undergraduates from all over the world to conduct research at world-class institutions in the US, Europe, Asia and recently in Australia and Canada too through the Amgen Scholars Program. It is an international program funded by the Amgen Foundation with direction and technical assistance provided by Harvard University. The program accepts applications for internship in “any disciplines related to the discovery, development, manufacture and delivery of human therapeutics, as well as the overall biomedical and biotechnology enterprise”.
