“Meet The Biosciences Experts” at Sutera Good Earth Exhibition

The Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science, UTM demonstrated a few series of workshops during the Sutera Good Earth Exhibition 2019 which was conducted at Sutera Mall in Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai from 13 until 29 September 2019; with the joint cooperation by the Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIP). The workshops conducted by the Bioscience Experts include:

1. “Artificial Tree Using Marine Microalgae” by Dr. Mohd Farizal Ahmad Kamaroddin
2. “Kitchen Waste for Greener Earth” by Dr Alina Wagiran
3. “Composting Pallet” by Dr. Huszalina Hussin

GCRF Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub Assembly (Autumn) 2019

GCRF Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub Assembly (Autumn) 2019 was held last week from 23rd to 26th September 2019 at Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya, Johor. This Hub Assembly was co-organized by Centre for Environmental Sustainability (IPASA), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia and Newcastle University from United Kingdom. A total of 78 participants from United Kingdom, India, Ethiopia, Colombia and Malaysia had gathered at this annual Hub Assembly with the aim to finalise the Work Stream plans for the coming 12 months of the GCRF Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub (the Hub), with outline plans to the mid-term of the programme, and impacts around the Work Stream activities. Furthermore, the purpose of this Hub Assembly is to gain an understanding of the specific water security context in Malaysia and how the Hub can work together to address these issues. At the same time, through this Hub Assembly, not only partnerships across the Hub can be refreshed and re-energised, formation of new connections particularly among the Early Career Researchers (ECRs) and other stakeholders are facilitated as well.

MoU Renewal between UTM and IKM for the Advancement of Chemistry Professions in Malaysia

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has maintained its established collaborations with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM), a statutory professional organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change (MESTECC). Since the first MoU signing between UTM and IKM in the year of 2009, many joint activities have been organised between the institutions. These cover a whole range of professional, educational, social and promotional activities in chemistry. Among others are the academic and professional lectures, academic curriculum advisory, UTM Convocation Award and Johor Chemistry Carnival (Karnival Kimia Johor).

International Cultural Day 2019

The first ever International Cultural Day 2019 (ICD2019) was successfully held at Dewan Ainuddin Wahid in UTM Kuala Lumpur on 2nd October 2019. This joyous and colourful event was jointly organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) and UTM International with Associate Professor Dr. Sarimah Shamsudin, the Director of Social Sciences and Humanities, FSSH, UTM Kuala Lumpur as the Chairman and Associate Professor Dr. Norhayati Abdullah from UTM International as the Associate Chair of the programme. The Chairman of UTM’s Board of Directors, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali officiated the event with an attendance of almost 1000 attendees consisting of guests, UTM officials and staff as well as UTM students at the diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate level. There were seven exhibition booths representing Sudan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Nigeria, Japan and of course our very own Malaysia which displayed various cultural artifacts and activities such as traditional cuisine sampling, Ceylon tea drinking custom, folk costume exhibition, furoshiki activity and batik canting. Cultural performances consisting of songs, dances and wedding ceremonies from the participating countries were part of the progamme intinerary that captured the interest of the audiences.

UTM Engineering-Industry Innovation Day 2019 the biggest program ever organized

The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Engineering-Industry Innovation Day 2019 is the first-ever immersive program organized by the Faculty of Engineering of UTM, the largest engineering faculty in Malaysia.
The event was held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar, UTM Johor Bahru campus for two days has gathered more than 700 academicians from the engineering backgrounds, 150 UTM industrial partner and a number of government agencies engaged in various activities.

The 2019 Malaysia-Japan Workshop on Radio Technology (MJWRT2019) has been successfully held at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur on 1-2 August 2019. MJWRT2019 is co-organized by Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur in cooperation with IEEE Malaysia AP/MTT/EMC Joint Chapter and IEICE/AP Japan (Technical Committee on Antennas and Propagation), has managed to gather approximately 70 attendees from Japan and Malaysia that includes academia and industry participants.
