MJIIT Students Excel at DHL APSSC Digital Automation Challenge, Secure Premium Internships

PETALING JAYA – On June 11, 2024, the Digital Automation Challenge (DAC) Award Ceremony and Letter of Intent (LoI) signing were held at the DHL Asia Pacific Shared Service Center (APSSC) in Imazium, Petaling Jaya.

Esteemed guests included Prof. Ali Selamat, Dean of Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT); Assoc. Prof. Ts. Ir. Dr. Nurul Akmar Mohd Hussin, Deputy Dean of Academic; Assoc. Prof. Ts. Ir. Dr. Azura Hamzah, Head of the Electronic System Engineering Department; Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Masitah Ghazali, Software Engineering Industrial Training Coordinator; and Dr. Fadzli Mohd Haniff, Marketing Director and Sangaku Renkei Manager.

Representing DHL APSSC were Aderlinda Gonzales, Global Head of Finance Shared Services Asia Pacific; Muzammil Mustafa, Head of Business Process Optimization, Digital Automation Center & Information Technology (DAC & IT); Tharaka De Silva, Head of Human Resources; Sivanesan Letchumanan, Senior Team Manager, Digital Automation Center; and Saiful Nahar Mohd Rusli, Human Resource Senior Manager.

Instead of the conventional recruitment process, DHL APSSC launched the Digital Automation Challenge (DAC) to identify top intern candidates for a six-month premium internship. This challenge, developed by DHL APSSC’s Development team, focuses on Robotic Process Automation (RPA) using UiPath.

The DAC event was inaugurated on April 7 at MJIIT. Sixteen students participated: fifteen from the Software Engineering program and one from Electronic System Engineering. On April 30, 2024, these students were invited to DHL APSSC in Petaling Jaya for the official launch of the DAC, after which they had just seven days to tackle a technical challenge posed by the DHL APSSC team.

On May 10, the top five finalists were announced and invited back to DHL APSSC for the final round, which included in-person interviews and presentations. The three winners, all from MJIIT’s Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) with Honours program at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), were awarded cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,000, and RM750, respectively, along with premium internship placements at the DHL APSSC Digital Automation Center starting in September 2024 for six months.
