UTMRAZAK Datathon 2019 was held on 16-18th October 2019 at Menara Razak, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur. The competition was organized by Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics (RFTI) UTM Kuala Lumpur with UTM Postgraduate Student Society (PGSSUTM) as the co-organizer , in conjunction with UTM Razak Research Week 2019. This event aimed to provide the knowledge sharing, promoting and encouraging students in developing innovative products using Malaysian open data. The event enabled the participants (in a group of 3 students) to demonstrate the potential of transforming data into knowledge. The UTM Razak Datathon 2019 program exposed the participants to perform critical data analysis in restricted time i.e. within 24 hours. AirAsia Bhd, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Data Micron have been very generous and supportive by becoming the Gold Sponsors for the event.
A total of 114 undergraduate and postgraduate students (38 groups) from five universities; UiTM, UTeM, UTHM, UIA and UTM participated in the event. The event started with a briefing from the secretariat on the terms and condition of the competition to the all participants. Next, DataMicron briefed the participants on Insta BI software, the tool that is being sponsored in the competition. The competition started soon after the briefing sessions. The participants spent the next 24 hours performing critical data analysis with the given data sets. The enthusiasm, energy and interest shown by the participants have been extraordinary. The best 5 from the group made it to the final pitching with the special juries from our sponsors.
The competition was won by the Big Hero (IIUM) as the champion and received 3 flight tickets to Bali, RM 1,000 cash and certificates. The 1st runner-up was won by XYNALIST (UTM) who received RM 1,500 and certificates. The 2nd runner-up was won by WK Datanalist (UTHM) who received RM 1,000 and certificates while the 3rd runner-up was won by Outliers (UTHM) and received RM 500 and certificates. The 4th runner-up was NPF_Breaker@AIS and received a special token of appreciation from the organizer. Congratulations to all winners and thanks to all sponsors from Asia Asia, MDEC and DataMicron.
