‘Economic Outlook: The Way Forward for Malaysia’ Talk an Eye-Opener

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 17, 2015 – A public lecture entitled ‘Economic Outlook: The Way Forward for Malaysia’ was conducted by YB Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department at Dewan Jumaah, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur this morning. The public lecture was jointly organized by the UTM International Business School and the Harvard Business School Alumni Club of Malaysia (HBSACM). The lecture was attended by 250 participants comprising members of HBSACM, researchers, staff, students, and invited guests from the industry and other institutions of higher learning.

The main objective of the lecture was to disseminate information and share knowledge pertaining to the economy of Malaysia. The talk lasted for more than an hour, where YB Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid highlighted the development, performance and prospect of the Malaysian economy.  UTM will continue to sustain such an impactful lecture series as such an informative talk can contribute towards the knowledge culture. A knowledgeable nation can empower citizens’ participation, which in turn could lead to good governance.

YB Senator Dato ‘Sri Abdul Wahid Omar Bin is an appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, responsible for overseeing a number of government agencies including the Economic Planning Unit, the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS), Department of Statistics, Equity National Berhad (EKUINAS), Talent Corporation (TALENCORP ) and, Bumiputra Education Steering Foundation (TERAJU). Prior to his appointment in the cabinet, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Maybank, the largest banking group in Malaysia. He is also the Chairman of the Association of Banks in Malaysia and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK) and a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
