The prestigious Merdeka Award 2014 saw two (2) UTM eminent figures to be among the six (6) selected recipients.
One recipient was Professor Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, UTM Professor in Chemical and Process Engineering. The other UTM recipient was Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid, or better known as Lat, who was formerly a UTM Resident Writer.
Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail was the joint recipient for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, while Datuk Lat won in the Education and Community category.
Other winners of this year’s Merdeka Award were Mohd Khan Momin Khan (Environment), Datuk Dr Choo Yuen May (Health, Science and Technology), Datuk Seri Gathrone Earl of Cranbrook (Outstanding Contribution to the People of Malaysia) and Professor Dr Abdul Latif Ahmad (joint recipient for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement).
Sultan Nazrin Shah who is the Merdeka Award Trust royal patron, presented each recipient with a Merdeka Award trophy, a Merdeka artwork by local artist Latiff Mohidin and RM500,000 at the award giving ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur.
Selected through an extensive and stringent process, these six individuals have shown leadership and innovation, fostering a culture of excellence in the true spirit of Merdeka.
