KUALA LUMPUR, Jul 6 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), in collaboration with i-SOMET, is proud to co-organise the 39th International Conference on Industrial, Engineering and Other Applications of Applied Intelligent Systems (IEA/AIE 2026) from 6 to 8 July 2026 at the Grand Millennium Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

IEA/AIE 2026 brings together researchers, academics, industry experts and postgraduate scholars from various countries to exchange research findings, technological innovations and practical applications in applied intelligent systems. The conference serves as an international platform for knowledge sharing, research networking and interdisciplinary collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent engineering systems and industrial applications.

A key highlight of the conference is the distinguished keynote address by UTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, entitled “A Universal Scanning Technology using Multi-Modal Artificial Intelligence Architecture for Industrial Inspection Applications.” His keynote highlighted the role of multi-modal artificial intelligence in advancing industrial inspection systems through the integration of multiple sensor inputs, including X-ray, RGB and hyperspectral imaging.

The keynote further demonstrated the potential of AI-driven inspection technologies in strengthening security, quality control, and industrial resilience, with applications in baggage scanning, cargo scanning and non-destructive agricultural quality assessment, including durian inspection. These examples reflect the growing relevance of intelligent technologies in supporting regional trade, smart industry and sustainable innovation ecosystems.

The conference also features keynote addresses and technical sessions by international experts, including Prof. Guido Guizzi from the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, whose keynote focuses on industry readiness for AI and the challenges of transforming AI from theoretical potential into practical deployment.
