SURABAYA, June 8 – The Global Community Outreach 2026 programme officially commenced at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya, Indonesia, bringing together students, academic staff and representatives from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) for a week-long international community engagement initiative.
Held under the theme “Empowering Sustainable Eco-Villages Through Environmental Education and Urban Farming,” the programme serves as a platform to strengthen academic collaboration, cultural exchange and community engagement among participating institutions while promoting sustainable development practices within local communities.
The opening session was officiated by Head of the Department of Instrumentation Engineering, ITS, Ir. Henry Sulvan Hadi, S.T., M.T., PhD.
In his welcoming remarks, he highlighted the importance of international cooperation in fostering knowledge exchange, mutual understanding and meaningful partnerships between universities and society.
Following the opening ceremony, participants were deployed to two different locations to conduct their outreach activities. The UTP delegation will undertake community engagement programmes in Desa Mojolebak, Mojokerto, while the UTM and UNITEN delegations will be stationed in Lamongan.
Throughout the programme, participants will work closely with local communities through educational activities, knowledge-sharing sessions, sustainable agriculture initiatives and cultural exchange programmes.
Beyond its community-focused objectives, the programme provides valuable opportunities for participants to broaden their global perspectives, develop leadership skills and gain first-hand experience in working within diverse cultural and social environments.
Through direct engagement with local communities and collaboration with international peers, participants are encouraged to cultivate a deeper appreciation of social responsibility, intercultural understanding, and sustainable development practices.
The initiative also strengthens institutional relationships between participating universities and supports future collaborations in academic, research and community development activities.
The Global Community Outreach 2026 programme will run from 8 to 13 June 2026, reflecting the shared commitment of participating institutions towards fostering global citizenship, strengthening regional partnerships and creating positive impacts within local communities.
