The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) hosted a Ramadan Quran Competition with over 150 participants from local and international communities, showcasing devotion and excellence in Quran studies. The competition featured 11 categories, including Quran memorization and recitation, with the highest level of memorization (30 Juz) carrying the most prestigious prize. The event aimed to promote spiritual enrichment and cultural engagement among students, with the first-place winner receiving a laptop for memorizing the entire Quran.
JOHOR BAHRU, Mar 8 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully concluded its Ramadan Quran Competition, attracting more than 150 participants from both international and local communities. The event showcased a strong spirit of devotion and excellence in al-Quran studies among students and members of the wider community.
The competition was held on 7 March 2026, with activities taking place at two venues within the university. The male categories were conducted at the Banquet Hall, UTM, while the female categories were held at Masjid Sultan Ismail, UTM. Participants competed in 11 categories, covering al-Quran memorisation (Hifz), recitation (Tilawah), and Hadith for male participants.

Among the main categories were Hifz (30 Juz, 10 Juz, 5 Juz, 1 Juz, and Surah al-Kahf), Tilawah, and Hadith, which tested participants’ memorisation of different portions of the Quran. Additional categories were introduced to encourage wider participation, including Hifz for female participants (1 Juz and 3 Juz), Tilawah (Female), and the category for children (al-Zalzalah – an-Nas). These categories provided opportunities for participants of various ages and levels of experience to demonstrate their dedication to the al-Quran.
The 30 Juz Hifz category, representing the highest level of memorisation, carried the most prestigious prize. The first-place winner received a laptop in recognition of the remarkable commitment required to memorise the entire Quran. Safwan Bakur Harun Abdallah emerged as the champion after delivering an outstanding performance throughout the competition.

The closing and award ceremony was held the following day, 8 March, at the Banquet Hall UTM. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Prof. Ts. Dr. Ali Selamat, and Assoc. Prof. ChM Dr. Norahim Ibrahim, Associate Director of Global Education & Experience (GEE). Their presence reflected the university’s commitment to supporting programmes that promote spiritual enrichment and cultural engagement among students.




The Ramadan Quran Competition was jointly organised by the International Student Society (ISS)-Yemen in collaboration with Pusat Islam UTM and the ISS-Egypt. The initiative aimed to promote deeper engagement with the al-Quran, reinforce the values of Ramadan, and foster unity within UTM’s diverse student community.
The ceremony concluded with a group iftar, bringing together participants, organisers, and guests to break their fast and marking a warm and memorable conclusion to the meaningful Ramadan event.
