TOKYO, Oct 2 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has further strengthened its visibility in Japan by participating in the Study in Malaysia Education Fair – Autumn 2025, organised by the Study in Malaysia Support Centre (SIMSC), Japan. The event was held at the Ebisu 303 Event Space, Tokyo, and brought together Malaysia’s leading universities and educational institutions to engage directly with Japanese students and educators.

Ahead of the main exhibition, UTM joined a one-to-one engagement session organised by the SIMSC Japan involving nine Japanese high school teachers from reputable institutions across Tokyo. The closed-door session served as a meaningful platform for Malaysian universities to introduce their academic programmes, scholarships, and learning environments.
Through this engagement, UTM highlighted its commitment to nurturing global-ready graduates and shared the distinctive approach of the Malaysia–Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), a UTM-based institute established under the Malaysia–Japan partnership model. Discussions also focused on potential collaborations with Japanese high schools for student mobility, joint outreach, and cultural exchange initiatives.
At the fair, UTM stood out as the only Malaysian public university among a line-up of prestigious private institutions including Monash University Malaysia, Taylor’s University, Sunway University, and Asia Pacific University (APU). This representation showcased UTM’s role as Malaysia’s leading technological university and its continuous efforts to elevate Malaysian public higher education on the global stage.
The fair recorded approximately 500 visitors throughout the day, consisting of students, parents, and teachers, with nearly 200 onsite applications received collectively by participating universities. UTM’s booth attracted particular interest from visitors seeking high-quality, affordable engineering and technology programmes with strong international exposure.

UTM was represented by two delegates from the MJIIT, both possessing nearly ten years of experience residing in Japan. Their deep familiarity with Japanese culture, education systems, and communication etiquette enabled them to engage effectively with local participants and provide authentic insights into studying in Malaysia.
This cultural and linguistic competence gave UTM a distinct advantage in connecting with Japanese students and educators, strengthening mutual trust and understanding. It also reinforced MJIIT’s mission as a bridge between Malaysia and Japan in education, research, and industry collaboration — an embodiment of the Malaysia–Japan partnership that has evolved over more than a decade.
The Study in Malaysia Education Fair – Autumn 2025 received extensive attention from Japanese media, with coverage aired nationally. The event played a key role in promoting Malaysia as an accessible and high-quality education destination within Asia. UTM’s participation, alongside SIMSC’s outreach efforts, contributed significantly to positioning Malaysia as a competitive choice for Japanese students seeking international education opportunities.

“UTM’s participation in this event is part of our continuous effort to strengthen international partnerships and to attract more students from Japan,” said Dr. Nurul Hanis, representing MJIIT. “We are proud to bring Malaysia’s world-class technological education closer to the Japanese community and to build sustainable ties through education and research collaboration.”
This initiative reflects UTM’s long-term commitment to internationalisation and cross-cultural engagement. Building upon its existing partnerships with Japanese universities, government agencies, and industries, UTM-MJIIT continues to lead in fostering educational exchange, student mobility, and research collaboration between Malaysia and Japan.
The success of UTM’s participation in the Study in Malaysia Education Fair – Autumn 2025 marks another milestone in promoting Malaysia’s higher education landscape globally while advancing UTM’s vision of becoming a globally renowned entrepreneurial research university.
