FKA ICE Day 2025: Bridging Minds, Building Futures

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 14 – The Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organized the FKA Industry–Community Engagement Day (ICE Day 2025) – Series Two – on 14 October 2025 at UTM Johor Bahru. This year, two series were conducted which are on 17 of June and 14 October 2025 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, UTM Johor Bahru. The event marked the third instalment of the ICE Day initiative since its inception in 2023, continuing its mission to strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and the community. It provided a strategic platform for knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and innovation aligned with UTM’s vision to nurture future-ready and industry-connected engineers. The event was purposely conducted in the faculty building and laboratories providing opportunities for industry and school communities to experience the faculty’s facilities.

ICE DAY 2025 was internally sponsored by the UTM Centre for Community and Industry (CCIN), the School of Undergraduates Studies (UGS), and UTM Alumni, with additional support and appreciation extended to industry partners including GreenIBS Consult Sdn. Bhd., Khairi Consult Sdn. Bhd., EcoWorld, Presgo Gateways Sdn. Bhd., Lagenda Properties Berhad, and Pintas Utama Sdn. Bhd.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Prof. Ts. Dr. Edy Tonnizam Mohamad, UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), together with Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd. Rosli Hainin, Dean of FKA, and other distinguished representatives from UTM management, the industry, and participating schools. The event featured industrial exhibitions, professional sharing sessions, and career interview opportunities, involving 14 organisations from both public and private sectors — among them GreenIBS, Khairi Consult, EcoWorld, Presgo Gateways, Lagenda Properties, Pintas Utama, Princeton Digital Group, Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), National Water Research Institute Malaysia (NAHRIM), Department of Mineral and Geosciense Malaysia (JMG) Negeri Johor, Spatialworks Sdn. Bhd., Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (APM), and Kurita Water (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. These engagements provided valuable exposure for students to current engineering practices, technologies, and employment pathways.

In addition to industry participation, FKA ICE Day 2025 welcomed the involvement of students and teachers from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kangkar Pulai, SMK Dato’ Penggawa Barat, Johor Matriculation College (KMJ), and Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) Johor Bahru. Their participation added youthful energy to the event, creating an interactive platform for early engineering education and awareness. The inclusion of schools and pre-university institutions reflects FKA’s commitment to nurturing interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among young Malaysians, ensuring a continuous pipeline of future engineering talents.

Exhibitions by 15 research group and research centers under the Faculty of Civil Engineering UTM participated as well in the exhibitions aspiring in sharing knowledge to the young generations as well as showcasing their niche areas and potential services to the industries. The research group and centers are Pavement and Transportation Research Group (PTRG), Hydraulics and Hydrology Research Group (HHRG), Geotechnical Research Group (GRG), Water and Wastewater Research Group, Waste Recovery Research Group (WRRG), Structural Assessment Forensic Engineering Research Group (SAFE), Construction Materials Research Group (CMRG), Reliability Engineering and Safety Assessment Research Group (RESA), Centre for Tropical Geoengineering (GEOTROPIK), Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), Centre for River and Coastal Engineering (CRCE), Centre for Forensic Engineering (FEC), and UTM Construction Research Centre (CRC).

Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nor Eliza Alias, Program Director of FKA ICE Day 2025, expressed her deepest appreciation to all partners, sponsors, and organizing committees for their dedication and hard work.
