Six esteemed delegates from the Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Dr. Nurhafizah Hasim, Dr. Ahmad Qushairi Mohamad, Dr. Nur Izzati Mohd Noh, Dr. Noraihan Afiqah Rawi, Dr. Mohd Fuad Mohamad and Dr. Norshahirah Mohamad Saidi, recently participated in a special collaborative event at Galgotias University, India. This invitation aimed to foster academic exchanges and strengthen research ties between the two institutions.

Upon arrival, the UTM delegates received a warm welcome from Galgotias University’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. K. Mallikharjuna Babu, along with directors from various faculties. Prof. Dr. Sunita Sharma, a key collaborator who has maintained a long-standing partnership with Dr. Nurhafizah Hasim, played a crucial role in facilitating the event.

The day featured a workshop titled “Multidisciplinary Approach Towards Research for Sustainable Solutions to Global Challenges”, held on September 5th, 2024, at the School of Basic Sciences. The workshop showcased presentations from UTM delegates, highlighting their expertise. Dr. Nurhafizah Hasim discussed the role of biopolymer materials in enhancing the self-cleaning properties of phosphate glass. Dr. Nur Izzati Mohd Noh presented innovative research on the use of cyanobacteria for sustainable bioproduct production, while Dr. Ahmad Qushairi Mohamad explored the dynamics of carbon nanofluid flow in inclined channels with bioconvection effects using mathematical modelling.

After the workshop, the UTM delegates toured Galgotias University’s facilities, including state-of-the-art laboratories and research centers. This tour provided valuable insights into the university’s capabilities and resources, further strengthening the potential for future collaboration.

The event also included fruitful discussions on future collaborations between UTM and Galgotias University, focusing on joint research projects, student and faculty exchange programs, and co-supervision of postgraduate students. They explored opportunities for joint publications and shared use of laboratory resources, along with plans for organizing more collaborative workshops and conferences to address global challenges in science and technology.

Looking ahead, both institutions are eager to pursue joint research initiatives in areas such as sustainable energy solutions, nanotechnology, and biomaterials. These collaborations aim to make meaningful contributions to global issues like climate change, renewable energy, and advanced materials development. Further discussions highlighted the potential for developing joint degree programs and collaborative internships, providing students with valuable cross-cultural educational experiences.
