PGSS UTM Hosts IGCESH 2024 Conference: A Decade of Excellence

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 28 – The 10th International Graduate Conference on Engineering, Science, and Humanities (IGCESH) 2024 was a significant success, reaffirming its position as a key platform for research and collaboration. The event was organized by the UTM Postgraduate Student Society (PGSS-UTM) in partnership with the UTM School of Graduate Studies (SPS). It featured 36 research papers from both local and international postgraduate students. These papers will be published in journals indexed by the Malaysian Citation Index (MyCITE).

This milestone edition of IGCESH 2024 was officially inaugurated by YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Malaysia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. He emphasized the importance of sustainability-driven research in addressing global challenges. He noted that the work presented at IGCESH 2024 underscores the vital role universities play in fostering innovative solutions for the future.

Since its inception, IGCESH has been a critical platform for promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. The 10th edition continued this tradition with presentations divided into three tracks: Engineering, Science & Technology, and Social Sciences. These presentations focused on innovative solutions for sustainability, showcasing the latest research developments from institutions such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Management & Science University (MSU), Multimedia University (MMU), the University of Information Technology and Communications (UoITC) from Iraq, and Koforidua Technical University (KTU) from Ghana.

The conference began with welcoming remarks from the UTM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail. Two distinguished keynote speakers shared their insights: Dr. Pramila Tamunaidu, a Research Fellow at the Malaysia-Japan Advanced Research Centre (MJARC), presented a talk titled “Connecting Minds: The Power of Synergy in Research-Development-Innovation-Commercialization-Economy (RDICE).” Additionally, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Azanizawati Ma’aram, Deputy Dean of Academy & Student Affairs at UTM’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM), emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility in her presentation, “Engineer’s Role in Sustainability Practices.” Both speakers offered valuable perspectives on integrating research, development, and sustainability practices within the engineering field.

Dr. Norah Md. Noor, the general chair of IGCESH 2024, expressed her sincere gratitude to the UTM master’s and doctoral students who make up the IGCESH 2024 committee for their unwavering commitment to excellence in planning the program. She stated, “As we celebrate the 10th edition of IGCESH, I thank the PGSS committee for their relentless dedication to advancing our goals of fostering sustainable solutions in a rapidly changing world, benefiting every student and participant involved.”

With a decade of successful conferences, IGCESH continues to strengthen UTM’s role as a leader in promoting impactful research and fostering global collaborations. As UTM progresses, events like IGCESH exemplify its commitment to shaping a sustainable and resilient future.
