MJIIT FYP Symposium: Bridging Academia, Industry, Global Partners

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28, 2024 – The Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) successfully hosted its Final Year Project (FYP) Symposium. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif bin Saleh, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur. Distinguished guests included Prof. Ts. Dr. Ali bin Selamat, Dean of MJIIT; Associate Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurulakmar Abu Husain, Deputy Dean of Academic & Student Development; Associate Prof. Dr. Shahrum Shah Abdullah, Deputy Dean of Research, Innovation, Commercialization & Linkages; Prof. Dr. Kanao Fukuda, Deputy Dean of Liaison & Internationalization; and Mr. Hideaki Seki, General Manager of the Product Development Department at Daido Kogyo Co. Ltd.

Held at Dewan Azman Hashim, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the event brought together students, faculty members, fellow academics, industry professionals, and international partners to celebrate innovation, research, and collaboration. The symposium featured 49 external panelists—24 from various industries and 25 from higher education institutions across Malaysia, as well as four representatives from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), IEEE Photonics Society, IEEE Antennas and Propagation/Microwave Theory and Techniques/Electromagnetic Compatibility (AP/MTT/EMC), and IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS). Additionally, three industry co-supervisors from DAIDO KOGYO CO. LTD., Japan, were present, adding international expertise to the event.

This year’s symposium showcased over 183 projects from final-year students across four undergraduate programs: Bachelor of Electronic Systems Engineering (ESE), Bachelor of Mechanical Precision Engineering (MPE), Bachelor of Chemical Process Engineering (CPE), and Bachelor of Software Engineering (SE). These projects highlighted a diverse range of innovative solutions, representing months of hard work, creativity, resilience, and dedication. They offered a glimpse into the future of various fields, demonstrating MJIIT students’ ability to tackle real-world challenges with ingenuity and passion.

The symposium underscored the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry, as well as the value of international collaboration. Partnerships with global institutions enhance the quality and impact of research, contributing to the overall success of the event.

The symposium concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing the most outstanding projects. The event was honored to receive support from IEEE, which presented four special awards to students from IEEE RAS, IEEE Photonics, IEEE AP/MTT/EMC, and IEEE SPS. The support from IEEE underscores the relevance of the students’ work to current industry needs.

The MJIIT FYP Symposium 2024 was a resounding success, demonstrating the talent and dedication of MJIIT students and the strength of the institute’s partnerships with UTM, industry, and international collaborators. As the event concluded, there was a strong sense of excitement and optimism for the future. The FYP symposium is a testament to the talent and dedication of MJIIT students and the strength of their partnerships with UTM, industry, and international players.
