Academic Adventures: UTM AIROST Explores Mahidol’s Innovation Hub

THAILAND, 15 March – On March 13th, 2024, Mahidol University warmly welcomed the UTM AIROST team from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru Campus. This exchange was made possible through the UTM International Outbound Mobility Program, which facilitated a transformative journey for the UTM AIROST team to Mahidol University in Thailand. Each student had the chance to explore Mahidol’s academic landscape thanks to generous sponsorship from UTM International, encouraging a spirit of exploration and cooperation. The UTM AIROST team is comprised of 14 members representing various faculties, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, and science. They eagerly ventured into Mahidol’s Innovation Hub to explore and collaborate.

Tram ride for Campus Tour

The day began with a scenic tram ride, providing a breathtaking view of Mahidol’s vast campus. Amidst the backdrop of natural beauty, the UTM AIROST team embarked on a sensory journey, immersing themselves in the sights and sounds that define the distinctive essence of Mahidol University.

After their delightful tram ride, the UTM AIROST team arrived at the Faculty of Engineering, where they received a warm welcome from Asst. Prof. Dr. Pattaraporn Posoknistakul, Deputy Dean for International Relations and Special Affairs. Dr. Posoknistakul’s opening remarks set the tone for a day full of exploration and enlightenment.

The UTM AIROST team, with their minds primed for discovery, explored the engineering innovation hub of Mahidol. They were immersed in the wonders of the laboratories, where they caught a glimpse of the future of engineering excellence through various captivating projects and demonstrations. The whirring machinery and the scent of possibility made the experience even more fascinating.

As midday approached, the UTM AIROST team decided to take a break and enjoy a delicious lunch at the campus canteen. They relished the flavors of Thai cuisine and the camaraderie that blossomed over shared meals. After the satisfying meal, they resumed their journey towards the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the Faculty of Science, feeling energized and invigorated.

The UTM AIROST team had the opportunity to attend a series of engaging sessions where they listened to speeches by esteemed faculty members. Dr. Pisit Praiwattana, the Assistant Dean for Organizational Communications and Media Technology from the Faculty of ICT, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dakrong Pissuwan, the Head of the School of Materials Science and Innovation from the Faculty of Science, delivered speeches that provided invaluable insights into the unique contributions of their respective faculties to the academic landscape.

While receiving guidance from faculty members, the UTM AIROST team worked on several cutting-edge projects on various fields of technology and science. The projects varied from immersive virtual reality experiences to groundbreaking research initiatives. Through these projects, the team members collaborated and came up with fresh ideas. They were amazed at the vast knowledge they gained and felt that the experience broadened their perspective, providing them with new possibilities to explore in their respective fields.

As the day came to an end, the UTM AIROST team said goodbye to Mahidol University with hearts full of gratitude and minds brimming with inspiration. As a token of their appreciation, they left with various snacks and desserts, which served as a sweet reminder of the hospitality and generosity they experienced throughout the day.
