PULAU PINANG, 14th Jan. – An Electrical-Mechatronics Engineering Year 4 student from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Hoh Chew Wen has demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation by leading Team ARchitects to a remarkable 1st Runner-Up victory at the “Augmented Reality Competition: Shaping Your AR Realm” organized by Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC).

Chew Wen, alongside teammates Nandaprian Rajasekaran, Irfan Ghapar, and Cheng Xiang Wen from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), showcased their groundbreaking project, Tour Inn, a cutting-edge stay-booking platform leveraging augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies for a seamless user experience.

Their innovative solution, Tour Inn integrates various accommodations, including hotels, Airbnb, and rental units, into a single, user-friendly platform, eliminating the hassle of switching between multiple apps. To empower users’ unit searching journey, Tour Inn also provides the feature of unit review with AR & VR to replace conventional 2D images. With AR 3D view and VR view of the property unit, users get to enhance their unit searching experience and get 100% transparency of the unit. With a vision for transparency and immersion, Team ARchitects captured the judges’ attention and earned recognition for their exceptional work.

Despite her packed final year schedule due to her final year project and capstone project, Chew Wen’s leadership and determination propelled the team forward, culminating in a successful pitch at Bayview Georgetown Hotel in Penang on 14 January 2024. Her ability to engage the audience and deliver a compelling presentation earned praise from both judges and attendees.

The team’s efforts were rewarded with the 1st Runner-Up award, including cash prizes of RM2,200, a trophy, a pair of Augmented Reality AM smart glasses worth RM10,000 by Pacific Future, and 1-year subscription on Mitoworld Platform by Virtualtech Frontier worth RM5,000, highlighting their talent and potential in the digital realm.
