On November 27th, 2023, the Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) hosted a significant forum at the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Leadership Development Centre in Bangi, Selangor. The event, titled “Hydrogen Technology: A Catalyst for Renewable Energy Transition and the Crucial Role of Power Grids,” brought together industry experts and participants from TNB Grid Academy 2.0 and 3.0.
The forum was headed by Dr. Tuan Amran Tuan Abdullah and assisted by Dr. Mohd Fadhzir A. Kamaroddin, P.Tech. It centred around the potential of hydrogen technology as a catalyst for transitioning to renewable energy sources and the vital role that power grids play in this transition.
The event concluded with a group photo capturing the participants and leading figures of the forum. The forum was part of UTM CHE’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The recent event was a crucial milestone in comprehending and adopting hydrogen technology, which aligns with the worldwide shift towards sustainable energy and achieving zero emissions.
The UTM CHE organized the Hydrogen Technology Forum, which brought several advantages to TNB executives. Here are some significant highlights:
1. Understanding Hydrogen Technology: The forum offers a comprehensive understanding of hydrogen technology, including its production, utilization, and safety protocols. This knowledge is essential, as hydrogen is a promising renewable energy source.
2. Insights into Green Hydrogen: The executives learned about an environmentally friendly method of hydrogen production, Green Hydrogen Production through electrolysis. It is essential for TNB to understand this process as they are committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
3. Hydrogen Utilization and Combustion: The forum covers the versatile utility of hydrogen, including its use as fuel in combustion engines and fuel cells. This knowledge can help TNB in its transition towards renewable energy sources.
4. Hands-On Learning: The forum features a hands-on session with the electrolyzer, fuel cell, and hydrogen storage tank systems. This interactive experience enhances understanding of the technology’s real-world implications.
5. Human Capital Development: The TNB forum demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing its human capital. By educating its executives on hydrogen technology, TNB is preparing its workforce for the future of the energy industry.
In summary, the Hydrogen Technology Forum is a significant step towards understanding and implementing hydrogen technology, aligning with the global trend towards renewable energy and net-zero emissions.
