UTM Embarks on a Research and Innovation Tour in Singapore

On October 5, 2023, a delegation from the Faculty of Technology and Informatics Razak (FTIR), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), embarked on a significant journey to Singapore. The delegation, led by Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Naz’ri Mahrin, Dean of the Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics (RFTI), and Prof. Ts. Dr. Ali Selamat, Dean of the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), visited several prestigious research institutions.

The first stop was the Advanced Research and Technology Innovation Centre (ARTIC) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Established in 2019, ARTIC is a beacon of innovation and progress within the College of Design and Engineering (CDE). The visit was marked by an exchange of ideas and discussions, further strengthening the bonds of collaboration among the researchers.

The delegation also had the privilege of visiting the NUS Environmental Research Institute (NERI), a university-level research institute dedicated to developing integrated sustainability solutions for the environment. NERI’s work, which extends through collaborations with government bodies, industries, NGOs, and leading academic partners, consistently addresses pressing real-world environmental challenges. The visit to NERI was a remarkable experience, filled with enlightening discussions and the promise of future collaborations.

The final stop was the Digital Trust Centre (DTC) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). DTC is a national beacon driving research to develop trust technologies and fortify Singapore’s position as a trusted hub in the digital economy. The representatives from FTIR and MJIIT expressed their eagerness to learn and explore new horizons in trust technology.

The visit to the ARTIC at the NUS, NERI, and DTC at NTU has opened up new avenues for research and development. The exchange of ideas and discussions that took place during the visit has strengthened the bonds of collaboration among the researchers from UTM and these institutions.

This visit has also marked the start of a journey towards exploring new horizons in various fields such as innovation, environmental sustainability, and trust technology. The eagerness expressed by the representatives from FTIR and MJIIT to learn and explore these fields shows the commitment of UTM towards pushing the boundaries of knowledge and technology.

Moreover, this visit has laid the foundation for future collaborations between UTM and these research institutions. The promise of future collaborations that emerged from the discussions during the visit indicates that there are exciting endeavors ahead. These collaborations are expected to address pressing real-world challenges and contribute to the advancement of technology and innovation.
