The Biomedical Instrumentation and Electronics (BMIE) Research Group has recently organised the BMIE Research Group Postgraduate Symposium 2023 on 10 August 2023 (Thursday) from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at the Active Learning classroom at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). This symposium provided a vibrant forum for cooperation and knowledge sharing among the researchers of the BMIE research group, who mainly worked on research areas such as electronics, biomedical instrumentation, biosensors, biomedical signal and image processing, rehabilitation and artificial intelligence for biomedical applications.
The event started with a welcome address from the Head of the BMIE research group, Ir. Dr. Fauzan Khairi Che Harun. This was followed by a knowledge-sharing session entitled ‘Tips for Publication’ by Dr Syarifah Noor Syakiylla Syed Mohd Daud, a post-doctoral researcher of the group. It was an insightful sharing where the symposium attendees were advised to prepare a targeted journal master list and introduced to various software tools for publication.
Subsequently, a perceptive online forum was held, where PhD alumni were invited to share their experiences and advice with the junior researchers. The invited panellists were Dr. Heng Wei Wei (Southampton University), Dr Yong Ching Yee (University of Technology Sarawak), and Dr. Awais Gul (Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi). The alumni imparted their wisdom and experiences and offered fresh perspectives on various academic systems based on their experience as lecturers at different educational institutions. They also appreciated the comprehensive facilities and support network they enjoyed at UTM during their studies, enabling them to complete their studies.
The last part of the symposium consisted of senior postgraduate students showcasing their innovative work. PhD candidates Fatima Abdullahi, Izzat Irfan Bin Muhammad Adam and Noor Syazwana Sahar each presented their findings to the research group members.
A lively discussion followed, facilitating knowledge exchange and collaboration. We concluded the day with a photo session, inspiring and motivating participants. In summary, the BMIE Research Group Postgraduate Symposium 2023 successfully fostered knowledge exchange and collaboration in biomedical instrumentation and electronics, featuring external insights and cutting-edge research, promising a lasting impact.
