Malaysia-Japan Career Fair 2023 Enhance Students Career Opportunities

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Campus organized a Malaysia-Japan Career Fair 2023 from 22nd to 23rd July 2023  providing all students including undergraduate and postgraduate students from UTM to explore recruitment options in Japanese companies and to connect with potential companies offering employment. The event was co-organized with The Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM).

The first day of the event was held at the Grand Banquet Hall of UTM Residensi officiated by Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh, Pro-Vice-Chensellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur Campus was also attended by Professor Ts. Dr. Ali Selamat, Dean of MJIIT, Mr. Daisuke Tanaka, Secretary General of JACTIM and Ms. Minako Sugawara, Chief Representative of JICA Malaysia Office.

Dean of MJIIT, Prof. Ts. Dr. Ali Selamat gave the welcoming speech. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh delivered encouraging remarks prior to the launching of the program.

Launching of Malaysia-Japan Career Fair 2023

The program was complimented with an Inspiring Talk session by Tn. Hj. Burhanuddin Md Radzi, Managing Director of Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd.

Students get to listen and grasp his truly remarkable journey from being a Petroleum Engineering student at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), then started working with an offshore company.

After a few years of gaining experience this field, he takes a frog leap to become an entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry and finally make a fortune in film making and cartoon series of Upin & Ipin.

He advised all students to take serious attention to their studies and to be a successful people, the first step is to graduate from the course taken. He also advised the new generation to have a proper attitude, especially during interview sessions.

Meanwhile, the Booth Exhibition and Industrial Talk sessions were arranged with a mixture of 13 top-performing experienced companies and the City of Yokohama in a casual and engaging setting.

Companies such as DXC Technology Sdn. Bhd., Euglena Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Fuji Electric (MALAYSIA) Sdn. Bhd., Hiro Food Package Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd., Hirose Electric (M) Sdn. Bhd., Masunaga Optical Meg. Co. Ltd., Nippon Electric Glass (M) Sdn. Bhd., Rohm Wako Electronics Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Sato Malaysia Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd., Sony EMCS (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Tesac (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Top Thermo MFG (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., and Ueda Plating (M) Sdn. Bhd., were among prominent employers offering 184 job prospects on-site at one of the key events for the Malaysia-Japan Career Fair this year.

Targeting the millennials as future leaders in the engineering industry, available job vacancies were advertised prior to the scheduled event on Official UTMKL Career Fair social media platforms such as Facebook (@utmklcareerfair) and Instagram (@utmklcareerfair) whilst some companies advertised opportunities for industrial and training placements.

More than 150 participants were reported to attend, consisting of students from UTM Kuala Lumpur and UTM Johor Bahru.

The second day of the event was held online to give way for some Japanese companies based in Japan to introduce their companies to the students and promote their job vacancies offered in Japan.

The session started with a briefing session by a representative from the City of Yokohama and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Then it continues with presentations from GLW Co. Ltd., SOC Co. Ltd. and Masunaga Co. Ltd. 58 participants attended online and had an interactive discussion.

At the same time, Euglena Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Maruwa Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and Kayaku Safety Systems Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. conducted an interview with more than 20 shortlisted candidates.

Other companies offering job vacancies will arrange their own interview on separate dates and venues decided by each company from applications made by UTM students through Google form during the first day of the career fair.
