UTM-BRIN Signed MOA for Joint Research-Based Postgraduate Programs Supervision

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 June. – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), Indonesia to engage in joint research-based postgraduate programs supervision.

The signing ceremony was held at Razak Tower, UTM Kuala Lumpur. The MOA was signed by Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Bin Ismail, Vice Chancellor of UTM and Dr. Edy Giri Rachman Putra, Deputy Chairman for Human Resources of Science and Technology, BRIN.

Witnessing the MOA signing ceremony were Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif bin Saleh, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur, and Dr. Raden Arthur Ario Lelono, Director of Talent Management, BRIN.

The signing of the MOA shows a continous strategic partnership between UTM and BRIN in research and academic, as well as collaborations, fostering knowledge exchanges between experts, joint research projects and reciprocal access to research facilities.

According to Prof Datuk Dr Fauzi, UTM and BRIN demonstrate a close and continuous synergy with another event of signing the MOA, and it will be another important milestone for both parties. Both UTM and BRIN are planning to work in synergy and make use of available resources.

In his remarks, Prof Datuk Dr Fauzi also added that transnational education has became an important agenda of UTM Global Plan and Envision 2025. Remote supervision is one of the key performance indicators of UTM capability to penetrate global market.

BRIN is a cabinet-level government agency established on April 28th, 2021 under the Office of the President of Indonesia. BRIN has the responsibility to conduct integrated research, development, studies, application, as well as invention and innovation with 12 research organizations which consists of 86 research centers.

The MOA was initiated after a research visit from UTM delegates to BRIN in 2018, followed by an MOU signed in 2019. UTM team is led by Prof. Ir. Dr. Sevia Mahdaliza Idrus.

The MoA for Cohort 1 has been signed by both parties on February 8th, 2022. A total of 17 research staffs from BRIN enrolled as postgraduate research student in UTM on March 2022.

They are funded through research contract with total value of RM1,002,774.00. The research collaboration also successfully produced 11 UTM-BRIN collaboration grants in total amount of IDR1,028,038,400.00, involving 15 UTM lecturers as research members.

The MoA signing ceremony today for Cohort 2, proved a close and continuous cooperation between UTM and BRIN following the meeting in 8th February 2022.  It is expected about  20 researchers for Cohort 2 will be enrolled  in the UTM-BRIN postgraduate program by October 2023.
