Team AssistVisor from UTM has showcased their remarkable skills and dedication, securing the prestigious 2nd Runner-Up Position in the Intel Building Digital Readiness Program 2023, AI Impact Creators Category.
The competition, held on the 17th of June 2023, attracted a total of 386 students and teachers from the whole of Malaysia participating.
The other two finalists hailed from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), making the achievement even more noteworthy.
Team AssistVisor demonstrated their innovative prowess through their project titled “Empowering Visually Impaired Travelers with Object Segmentation and Distance Detection.”
Leveraging the power of Intel RealSense camera and Mask RCNN, their solution aimed to assist visually impaired individuals in identifying obstacles and navigating their surroundings effectively by using voice feedback.
Team AssistVisor members include Tam Shue Yi (UTM 2nd Year Electronics Engineering student), Hoh Chew Wen (UTM 3rd Year Mechatronic Engineering student) and Shaun Liew Xin Hong (USM 3rd Year Computer Science student).
Team AssistVisor extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) UTM and the UTM Airost Team for their invaluable contributions. Their unwavering support and guidance have played a vital role in this success.
As a result of the remarkable success, Team AssistVisor has been invited to represent Malaysia in the highly anticipated 2023 Intel® AI Global Impact Festival, an international platform where innovative minds gather to celebrate and explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence.
