Students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) were keen to fulfil their commitment to donate blood by participating in a recent blood donation program.
Giving blood helps not only those in need but also gives health benefits to individuals who donate. The UTM Health Centre, FIGURA22 of Kolej Tun Razak, and Kolej Tun Razak Student Leaders (JKM KTR) collaborated on a blood donation drive. They ensured that all government-mandated safety precautions were taken prior to the blood drive’s launch.
On the 30th of May, this initiative was also made in collaboration with the Sultanah Aminah Hospital, Johor Bahru. Within just six hours, 138 people turned up at Dewan Tun Rahah in Kolej Tun Razak to donate blood to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital blood bank, according to Dr. Norannieza Muzlan of the UTM Health Centre.
After a screening process, 48 people were rejected for medical reasons, leaving only 90 donors qualified to donate blood. Among events held concurrently during this drive were an HIV exhibition and an HIV screening, a PROSIS Club exhibition, and a non-tobacco exhibition.
It is hoped that UTM students will continue to adopt this practice and spirit of supporting one another. Hence, blood donation should be organised on a regular basis.
