Boosting Global Campus Experiences via ACS UTM International Student Chapter

On 22 October 2021,  American Chemical Society (ACS) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) International Student Chapter held an Instagram live sharing session, “Zero to Hero: An Introduction to ACS UTM International Student Chapter”. The live session was conducted from 8.15 PM to 10.00 PM. This was a collaboration event between the Protocol Department and Membership Department of ACS UTM International Student Chapter.

Zero to Hero was a podcast-like, casual chat sharing session between the event hosts and the guests. The objectives of the event were to introduce and promote the society to UTM students, increase the exposure of ACS UTM on social media and share about the lives of university students and their future plans.

The guests invited were ACS UTM Former President, Naziela Al Atiq Aljeffry and Former Vice-President, Nazmi Mohamed. There were four committee members involved in the planning of this event and 40 registered as participants in this event. The participants were from different faculties such as Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering.

The event commenced at 8.15 PM with the hosts, Nur Izzati Syahirah and Pang Song En greeted the audience whilst the guests joined the live session in 10 minutes. The first activity was an interactive mini game called “Two Truths and One Lie”, in which each speaker had to tell two truths and one lie about themselves, and the others had to guess the lie.

After the game, the event proceeded with the first sharing session, “The History of Establishing ACS UTM International Student Chapter”. Following that was the second sharing session which was a sharing Session through the eyes of university students. Zero to Hero came to an end at 10.00 PM with a group photography session and closing speeches from the guests, Naziela and Nazmi and the hosts, Izzati and Song.

All in all, the live session was a major success as it attracted many followers and a mass audience alongside great sharing by the guests. It was a good kick-start for ACS UTM International Student Chapter.

ACS UTM International Student Chapter is very thankful for everyone who made this event happen and successful. The society also hoped that the live sharing session had inspired the audience in some way to explore more about Chemistry and gained meaningful takeaways from the session.
