The 3rd International Conference on Biosciences and Medical Engineering (ICBME) 2021 was conducted virtually from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The conference was conducted virtually for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this time, it was a joint conference with the 2nd International Medical Device and Technology Conference (iMEDiTEC) 2021.
The conference was attended by at least 270 people from Malaysia and abroad such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, India, The United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Indonesia, Japan and Taiwan.
The conference was chaired by Prof. Kahar Osman and co-chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azli Yahya and Prof. Fahrul Zaman Huyop. The opening remarks were given by the conference patron, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohammed Rafiq Abdul Kadir, and followed by UTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail.
The conference theme, “Synergy For Future Sustainability” brought together four keynotes, Prof. Congo Tak-Shing (Ching National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan), Prof. Tunku Kamarul Zaman Tunku Zainol Abidin (University of Malaya Medical Center-UMMC), Dr. Mohd Adnan Sulaiman (PENAWAR – Medical Group) and last but not least Prof. Nashi Widodo (Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia).
The 3rd ICBME2021 successfully brought together academicians from worldwide universities to present their current scientific findings and strengthen the current Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or letter of intent (LOI) partnerships. The conference itself has also emphasized knowledge sharing and created networks between members from different faculties.
The best selected papers presented at the conference were invited to publish in the Journal Tropical Life Science (JTROLIS) and selected Engineering-based Journals indexed by SCOPUS and Clarivate Analytics’s Web of Science (WoS)
During the closing ceremony, Prof. Kahar Osman invited all of the participants to join the next ICBME2022 that will be co-host between the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science (UTM), Kulliyah of Science (IIUM Kuantan) and School of Biomedical Engineering & Health Science (UTM). The conference registration will be free as well.
