UTM Engineering Paving Path for Strategic Collaboration with Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers

The Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM Engineering) paid an official visit to Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Johor Branch on 8th September 2020 to foster strategic research collaboration between UTM and manufacturing industries in Malaysia.

The visit was participated by six delegates from UTM which was led by UTM Engineering Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation, Professor Dr. Naomie Salim.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of FMM Johor Branch, Mr. Saw Seong Ho, two Vice-Chairman of FMM Johor Branch, Mr. Eiap Eng Khoon and Mr. Sonny Nizam Ahmad, Senior Executive of FMM Johor Branch, Ms. Jessica Chu, and Senior Manager of FMM Johor Branch, Ms. Sim BS.

The visit was made following the success of many contract research and consultation projects by the Faculty of Engineering UTM that have benefited many manufacturing companies in Malaysia.

In this visit, the experts from UTM presented their past experiences and products that have benefited many industry partners. The scope of research areas that have been presented included failure analysis, big data analytics, manufacturing robots, smart manufacturing, IoT, and energy efficiency.

During the session, UTM Engineering offered further collaboration that can benefit FMM members, driven by the AIMS4STAR Consortium that was designed to contribute and solve the local, industrial, and national problems. It is part of the University’s vision to strengthen the concept of University for society.

The visit will pave more opportunities for UTM researchers to contribute their expertise in solving problems faced by FMM members and it is hoped that this collaboration will see the synergistic involvement of various engineering sectors in helping the manufacturing industries to improve the quality of their services and products.
