Sukan Sekolah Komputeran 2020 (SUSKOM’20) was held at the School of Computing from the 1st of March till 7th March this year. It was an annual sports event for School of Computing organised by Persatuan Mahasiswa Sains Komputer (PERSAKA) which was intended to encourage students’ involvement in sports. Through this event, the students get to know and compete with each other from different courses and year of study.

This year, SUSKOM’20 was conducted in collaboration with UTM Alumni and sponsored by Mutiara Johor Bahru and OYO. There were about 453 students who registered for the programme and got the chance to experience different sports and games.

The School of Computing students in Software Engineering (SCSJ), Data Engineering (SCSP), Network and Security (SCSR), Bioinformatics (SCSB) and Graphic, and Multimedia Software (SCSV) courses had competed with each other in E-sports which are FIFA20, DOTA 2, Mobile Legends (ML), Call of Duty (COD), and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG).  

They also engaged in indoor and outdoor games such as badminton, futsal, netball, volleyball, 3km Fun Run, Explorace & Sukaneka, and etc. Fun time with the alumni participation and a tug-of-war between the courses had added to the enjoyment of the event. Through this event, the students get to know and compete with each other from different courses and year of study.

The first day of SUSKOM’20 was started with the E-sports tournaments handled by the crew of the activities which involved 4 teams of PUBG and twelve teams of ML at certain venues. The E-sports tournaments were followed with a COD match on the second day and finished by FIFA 20 and DOTA 2 tournaments happened from 4th March till 6th March.

After that, the indoor and outdoor games such as badminton was held in SportHall 1 from 3rd March till 5th March.  Meanwhile, the other games such as volleyball and netball were held on 6th March and futsal on the 7th March. On the last day of the event, SUSKOM’20 began with Extra Games which were 3km Fun Run with a total of one hundred students participation, Explorace & Sukaneka, and finished off the day with a tug-of-war match between the courses.

The highlight of the event was the closing ceremony held in Kejora Hall, N28a, School Of Computing on the last day. The closing ceremony was officiated by Prof. Madya Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir bin Wan Kadir as the Chair of School of Computing and attended by Dr. Suhaila Mohamad Yusuf (Coordinator of Student Development) and Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Tariq (Advisor of PERSAKA). The ceremony was enlivened with the prize-giving and lucky draw session. 

The students departed with a clear smile on their faces as SCSJ emerged as the Course Champion. It was a week filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and memories to cherish. The Chair of the School of Computing thanked all the students including participants and organising committee for their cooperation and support. He also advised all of them to keep up their sportsman spirit.

This year SUSKOM’20 has created a good bonding and memories among students, alumni, and staff. Besides able to reduce their stress, they also had an enjoyable time together.
