A technical talk by Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (PROTON) entitled ‘ Automotive Technology: The Future In-Car Connectivity ‘ was successfully organized by the School of Electrical Engineering (SKE) on November 17, 2019, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and co-sponsored by the Malaysian Simulation Society (MSS). Two experts from automotive industry were invited. They were Mr. Md Ridzuan Md Yusof, Special Officer of CEO Office, PROTON Edar Sdn Bhd, and Mr. Mohd Zaini Tajudin, Lead Technical Specialist, PROTON.
The main aim of this talk was to give exposure to our UTM students with the technology of the Controller Area Network (CAN), which has been widely used in the automotive industry. A CAN is a standard and one of the most popular in-vehicle protocols to enable seamless sharing of information via a common connection between devices within a vehicle. The experts managed to share their experiences in CAN and how it was actually applied in the automotive industry.
At the beginning of the talk, Mr. Md Ridzuan shared several important information about the PROTON background and the current technology used in PROTON. The talk was further delivered by Mr. Mohd Zaini Tajudin who briefly presented the theoretical framework and practical application of the CAN. Using the IRIZ PERSONAL ICU Tester Unit System consisting of I/O box, 12 DC power supply, and CANoe, the practical demonstration on the use of CAN technology was presented at the end of the talk.
As part of the program, Mr. Md Ridzuan also brought along several salespeople from PROTON Plentong branch together with the latest edition of X70, Persona, and Iriz for the participant to test drive.
At the end of the program, the Chair of SKE, Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Wazir bin Mustafa presented the souvenir to both experts.
