On 28th of July 2019, a group of MJIIT students with one guardian were invited to join  SAKURA Science Program in Science held in Tokyo City University (TCU), Setagaya Campus, Tokyo. Each student had the first experience in conducting research in a Japanese style laboratory from problem discovery to problem resolution through Problem Based Learning (PBL). The program was held for one week until 3rd of August 2019.

Throughout the 4 days in TCU, the students were divided into groups and were attached to each department to carry out the experiments. The departments involved were the Chemistry and Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical System Engineering and Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering. There was one Japanese lecturer and few laboratory mates assigned to help the students in each department to run the research. On the 4th day at TCU, the students needed to present and discuss their work related to the research they had conducted in the respective lab and some of their memorable experiences in Japan.  After that, there was a graduation ceremony and a farewell party by TCU.

Other than involving in academic fields, the students were also exposed to the Japanese culture in daily life and their advance technologies. On the 2nd of August, the students had a great opportunity to visit Miraikan- The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Odaiba where they gained new knowledge on the evolvement of technology in Japan.
