A graduate from the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FCEE) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was selected to receive The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Gold Medal Award 2019 on 20 APRIL 2019 in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Tan Boon Siang received the IEM Gold Medal Award at the IEM 60th Annual Dinner & Award Night 2019 which was held at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Space, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya. This award is given to the best final year engineering student selected from local institutions of higher learning.

Tan graduated with a First Class Degree with CGPA 3.95 in Chemical Engineering in 2018 and was also a recipient of the Royal Education Award at the UTM 61st Convocation Ceremony. During his study life in UTM, he had actively taken part in University Event and held significant roles in the activities. Among those were as the Director of UTM Career Carnival 2018, Vice President (International Communication) of the UTM Student Representative Council 2016/2017, Talentcorp Campus Ambassador, Sponsorship Manager of 57th Festival of Convocation UTM (FESKO 57) and other leadership roles.

His active involvement in activities did not stop him from being excellent in the academic performance. Tan published a Scopus rated Journal Paper on the topic of “Potential of Energy Recovery from An Integrated Palm Oil Mill with Biogas Power Plant” in the Journal of Chemical Engineering Transactions Vol 63 in 2018. He was also selected as one of the best presenters of his Final Year Project Viva.

He currently serves as a Program Management Executive in a Multinational Electronic Manufacturing Company based in Johor.
