UTM Low Carbon Asia Research Centre – Japan Partnership Grows from Strength to Strength

UTM Low Carbon Asia Research Centre aims  to  bring innovative  science  and  technology  solutions to promote sustainable urban futures to the Asian region,  specifically  in  the  subject  area  of climate  change mitigation.
Towards this endeavor, the centre has developed strong collaboration with several like-minded organisations in Japan, which has resulted in the centre gaining in terms of financial support and transfer of knowledge.
The UTM Low Carbon Asia Research Centre has in fact received  research grants worth 200 million yen (RM 8 mil) from SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable development). The funding,  sponsored by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) and JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) is for the duration of 2011 to June 2016 .
Collaborating partners include Kyoto University, Okayama University, and NIES (National Institute Environmental Studies). Projects under the grant involves 13 Japanese experts, 15 UTM experts and 20 post graduate students.
Research conducted under the grant has been recognised as one of best  JICA projects with 3 ‘VERY  HIGH’ (5 pts) points awarded for the Relevance, Effective and Impact criterion, and  2 ‘HIGH'(4 pts) points for the Sustainability and Efficient criterion during the Terminal Evaluation Audit  Report on Sept 15 2015.
