The 1st International Roundtable Conference on Islamic Leadership for Muslim Scientists (IRCIL), enjoyed strong support with 219 delegates, representing 23 nationalities from across the globe.

 

The high-level roundtable conference aimed at becoming a strategic platform to discuss issues related to leadership development for Muslim scientists in research, innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship. This was achieved by convening 35 speakers and panellists comprising scientists, academics, and entrepreneurs to engage in lively discussion and brainstorming in panel formats.

 

The meeting of the minds not only include academicians from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia but also foreign experts. UTM was represented by Prof. Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar, Vice-Chancellor UTM, Prof. Dr. Azlan Abdul Rahman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Development, UTM, Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Abdul Manan, Dean of FChE ,UTM and President of PERINTIS, Prof. Dr. Awaluddin Mohamed Shaharoun, Dean of Razak school UTM, to name a few. Foreign experts include Prof. Dr. Tariq Ramadhan from the University of Oxford, Prof. Dr. Omar Hassan Kasule from Harvard University, Prof. Dr. Salim Al Hassani from the University of Manchester, and Prof. Dr. Tareq Mohammed Al-Suwaidan, the CEO of Gulf Innovation Group.

 

The roundtable discussion concentrated on the value of forming strategic engagements and alliances to harness impactful synergies and applications for research, innovation and creativity which focus on the needs of the Ummah.

 

This conference is unique in the sense that, it provides a platform that looks into a more holistic approach of repositioning the Ummah in the frontiers of science and technology.

 

The conference is jointly organised by the Scientific Development Network Leadership Centre (SDNLC), UTM, in collaboration with the Faculty of Islamic Civilization, UTM, the Muslim Scientist Organization of Malaysia (PERINTIS), the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) and the International Institute for Muslim Unity (IIMU).

 

Through SDNLC, UTM hopes to position itself as a leading centre of excellence for capacity building among Muslim nations. Through leadership development and collaboration among scientists, it is hoped that talents and expertise will be nurtured and harnessed to the fullest.
