UTM students shine after winning many awards at the Innovate Malaysia (IMDC) 2013 competition, co-organised by MDec, TalentCorp, IEM, Agilent, Altera, Intel, NI, Siltera, CEDC and DreamCatcher. These outstanding students are from the UTM Faculty of Electrical Engineering and its Centre of Excellence, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.

UTM proudly won 2 First Prizes, 1 Crest Research Assistant Award and 6 Consolation Prizes in this 3rd Innovate Malaysia Design Competition (IMDC) 2013.

One of the First Prize Awards is in Altera Track (RM5000 and tPad DE2-111 Multimedia Development Kit), won by students Soon, Chun, Mein, Muhammad Noor b Muhammad, Mohd Farizal for their project titled “Implementation of LED Display Controller Using System On Chip Approach”. They were guided by advisor Mr. Zulfakar bin Aspar.

 


The other First Prize Award is in Intel Track (RM5000 and laptop) entitled “Compact Rehabilitation Robot”, won by UTM students Khor Kang Xiang, Patrick Chin Jun Hua, Fu Suan Kian, guided by Dr. Yeong Che Fai.

 

It is worth mentioning that one student of Dr. Yeong, Khor Kang Xiang also won the prestigious Crest Research Award worth RM72,000 for him to pursue his Master Study. The selection was tough as the criteria required the participants as Innovate Malaysia finalists, to pitch and that they must have 1st class CPA.

 


The other 6 UTM teams who won consolation prizes are with Biomimetic Aquatic Surface Robot for Oil-Spill Cleanup, ECG Bio-Chip Design for Portable Health Care & Home Monitoring Applications Using Altera FPGA, Car Make and Model Recognition Using Minimum Average Correlation Energy (MACE), Smart Vending Machine based on Intel Atom Innovation Kit and Micro Bio-Object Analyzer Using an Electrode-Microfluidics System, and Alert System for Sleep Apnea Patients.
