First and foremost, praise be to Allah Subhanahu Wataala that we are able to be present for this auspicious occasion, the 49th Convocation Ceremony.

This convocation ceremony is very meaningful, marking the pinnacle of success and the happiest moment in celebration of the achievements of our graduands who have successfully completed their studies in various specialised disciplines in UTM.

Heartiest congratulations to all graduands who will be receiving their certificates at the diploma, bachelor, master or doctoral levels.

Heartiest congratulations to all successful foreign graduands of UTM who have come from far in search of knowledge and skills in UTM.

You have taken a big step to pursue your studies here and today your hard earned efforts have been rewarded. I’m sure today is also a special moment for your family members. Congratulations to them as well, for they have sacrificed a lot to ensure your success. I hope that graduands will not easily forget the deeds and sacrifices of your parents who have supported and motivated you, as well as prayed for your success.

In a ceremony such as this, we should value the efforts of all UTM staff who have strived to ensure the smooth running of the teaching and learning process.

Congratulations to the recipients of the Honorary Doctoral Degree of Engineering:

  • Prof. Gustaf Olsson, Professor Emeritus of Lund University, Sweden
  • Datuk Rameli Musa, Vice Executive Chairman of Ingress Corporation, and

Congratulations also to Professor Datuk Dr. Abu Azam bin Md. Yassin, former TNC(A) of UTM on being conferred  with an Emeritus Professorship title.

Graduands of today need to strike a balance between the needs of your career and the needs of your family and society. They should portray good personality and character, as well as high moral values.

I am pleased to remind all graduands that the pursuit of knowledge is a continuous effort. In a modern and developed society, the culture of lifelong learning should be practised whether through formal or informal means.

I would like to take this opportunity to call upon all UTM graduands to continue your studies at the postgraduate or advanced level.

Graduands should also have the courage and initiative to be innovative and creative in confronting the global economic environment.

UTM in its effort to consolidate knowledge culture has invited several local and international learned scholars. In fact, I had the opportunity to give input at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Oxford University as the Chancellor of UTM. I also shared experience with the younger generation in the New Academia Programme at UTM. I applaud the UTM leadership for the continuous effort to promote the Knowledge Culture programme through the implementation of various initiatives.

UTM has attained the Research University and Autonomous University status. I believe that UTM’s impressive ranking position would allow us to be on par with renowned world universities.

UTM academic staff and students have achieved successful victories in various competitions which have made us proud. UTM has also established strategic partnerships with numerous national and international universities. The establishment of UTM has had a huge impact on the country’s development. Over the years, UTM has produced graduands who have contributed to the development of the nation. This has been acknowledged by the Prime Minister, YAB Dato Sri Najib Razak at the launch of the biography book on Tan Sri Ainuddin Wahid.

I also urge all UTM graduands to take the opportunity to be engaged in various employment sectors in the Iskandar Malaysia development region in Johor.

Finally, I would like to congratulate all the UTM community! Do continue to serve with honesty, sincerity, and excellence to enable UTM to attain even greater success in the future.

To all graduands, With the power vested upon me, I confer you the degree as stated in the convocation book.
