BANDAR BARU BANGI, Nov 21 – The UTM Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE) at the Institute of Future Energy (IFE) recently partnered with TNB Integrated Learning Solutions (TNB ILSAS) to conduct an informative two-day Bioenergy Training Course for executives from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). The sessions were held on July 30-31 and November 20-21, 2024, at TNB ILSAS in Bangi, Selangor.
The training program aimed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of TNB executives, including project directors, senior managers, managers, and senior engineers from various departments such as mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering, as well as human resources, law, and ICT. The focus was on exploring the potential of bioenergy technologies during the energy transition phase, particularly in electricity generation.
Expert Speakers and Comprehensive Content
Three distinguished trainers from CHE IFE-UTM conducted the course: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anwar Johari, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Liew Peng Yen, and Ts. Dr. Mohd Fadhzir Ahmad Kamaroddin. They addressed a wide range of topics, including an introduction to bioenergy, biomass feedstocks, bioenergy conversion technologies, biofuel production and utilization, biogas production and applications, as well as bioenergy policy, economics, and sustainability.
Active Participation and Future Plans
Participants displayed high engagement throughout the sessions, demonstrating a strong interest in the potential of bioenergy in Malaysia. Their enthusiasm and commitment to learning new methods for achieving a sustainable future were evident.
This initiative aligns with TNB ILSAS’s mission to promote awareness and education about sustainable energy technologies. It also supports Malaysia’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as outlined in the 2015 Paris Agreement.
Looking ahead, TNB plans to incorporate bioenergy into its electricity generation strategy, utilizing the insights gained from this training. Future collaborations between UTM and TNB ILSAS are expected to further advance sustainable energy initiatives.
