UTM Kuala Lumpur Hosts Key Erasmus+ Event, Promoting International Collaboration in Higher Education

On June 12th, 2024, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur hosted a significant event focused on the Erasmus+ program. The day began with an Erasmus+ Info Session, attracting 75 participants from 29 universities across Malaysia. This session, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin Abu Hassan, the Erasmus+ National Focal Point (ENFP) of Malaysia, aimed to provide comprehensive information on the program’s international dimension and opportunities. The session opened with inspiring remarks from Mr. Eero Oinonen, Political Officer of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Malaysia; Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd Latif bin Saleh, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of UTM Kuala Lumpur; and YBhg. Datin Noorazah binti Omar, Undersecretary of the International Relations Division at the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

These dignitaries set the stage for a comprehensive overview of the Erasmus+ program, specifically highlighting its international dimensions. Presentations delved into the key actions of Erasmus+, followed by a dedicated segment on the Erasmus+ promotional activities by the ENFP of Malaysia. Beneficiaries of past Erasmus+ grants shared their experiences, providing valuable insights for potential applicants. The session also focused on practical aspects of project proposal writing, with expert advice on crafting successful applications for the Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) action. Two compelling CBHE projects, involving Malaysian higher education institutions, served as best practice examples. The session concluded with a stimulating discussion and insightful conclusions, leaving attendees with a strong understanding of the Erasmus+ program’s opportunities and best practices for successful participation.

In the afternoon, a more exclusive CBHE Cluster Meeting brought together 22 invited participants. Mr. Eero Oinonen again graced the event with opening remarks, setting the tone for a focused discussion on Malaysia’s involvement in the CBHE action. Presentations showcased the best practices of CBHE projects implemented in Malaysia, highlighting the outcomes, impacts, and challenges encountered. A crucial focus was placed on how these projects achieved dissemination and ensured the sustainability of their results. The afternoon concluded with recommendations for effective project implementation and a robust discussion that shaped the future of CBHE projects in Malaysia.

This two-part event, held at UTM Kuala Lumpur, successfully fostered collaboration and knowledge sharing among educators, researchers, and administrators, paving the way for a more interconnected and dynamic landscape for higher education in Malaysia and beyond.
