On May 24th, 2024, Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) made history by establishing the first satellite lab of Social Science in collaboration with HSE Saint Petersburg University. This satellite lab, also known as the mirror lab, connects AHIBS’s ACT Lab and HSE’s REPLab, marking UTM’s first venture in Social Science.
The inauguration ceremony at HSE University in Saint Petersburg was officiated by HSE President Nikita Akisimov, HSE Saint Petersburg Rector Anna Tyshetkaya, and UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail. The event was attended by delegates from HSE International Day 2024, HSE staff, and students. AHIBS academics joined via Zoom.
Key attendees included the Dean of AHIBS, Prof. Dr. Rosmini Omar, Deputy Dean of Research, Innovation, and Development of AHIBS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haliyana Khalid, and Director of UTM International Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ariffin Mohd Hassan.
This mirror lab, inaugurated in response to the opening at AHIBS in November 2023, symbolizes the synergy between UTM and HSE. It stands as a beacon of innovation, reflecting both institutions’ commitment to advancing knowledge and expertise, especially in social entrepreneurship. Prof. Fauzi highlighted the importance of capacity building through combined resources and expertise to equip staff and students for the global landscape. He emphasized trust, sustainability, and community impact as the collaboration’s foundations.
Prof. Dr. Rosmini Omar discussed the project’s long-term vision, focusing on sustainability and lasting societal contributions. Following the inauguration, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haliyana delivered a lecture on case study publication, showcasing part of the collaboration activities.
This collaboration has garnered international recognition for UTM and AHIBS, demonstrating their commitment to excellence and innovation in the global academic and research communities. The success of the mirror lab establishment is attributed to the synergy within UTM and the support of its top management, aligning with UTM’s enVision 2025 goals of becoming a globally renowned institution.
