PAGOH, 10 Mac – Malaysia-Japan Advanced Research Centre (MJARC), an advanced laboratory under the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kampus Pagoh, has successfully organized the “Back to Nature and Sustainable Agriculture ” training program. This two-day training program was held at UTM Kampus Pagoh and Nasuha Herbs and Spice Farm, Pagoh, Johor on the 8th and 9th of March, 2023. This training program aimed to promote sustainable agriculture practices and reconnect participants with nature. Led by experienced and skilled trainers from MJARC, MJIIT, and UTM Pagoh, the best modules and hands-on training throughout these two days were carried out effectively.

Over 20 participants from the Office of Asset & Development, UTM Kuala Lumpur, headed by Mr Muhammad Syahir Rosdin, joined this training program comprised of activities that allowed participants to experience sustainable agriculture practices first-hand and learn about the importance of preserving natural resources.

On the first day of the program, participants attended a series of workshops and talks that covered topics such as sustainable agriculture and farming techniques, organic waste management, including Japanese methods of composting, and the fundamentals of operating agricultural drones. Participants also toured the UTM Pagoh Greenhouse, including hydroponic farms and fertigation crops. Later in the day, the participants were taken on a nature walk on the research farm at UTM Kampus Pagoh. They had hands-on experience flying and controlling an actual agriculture drone.

On the second day of the program, participants attended a talk covering herbal plants and farming, conducted at Nasuha Herbs and Spice Farm, the largest herbal farm in Malaysia. The program also included a fun archery game where participants worked in teams. This game was meant to encourage teamwork and friendly competition and add some fun to the program after a series of workshops.

The program was praised by the participants not only for its focus on hands-on learning and practical applications but also for providing a fun and memorable experience emphasizing the importance of teamwork and sustainability. Many expressed that they gained new perspectives on sustainability and were motivated to adopt more eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
