UTM Develops Staff Leadership through University Leader’s Entrepreneurial Educators Bootcamp

With the objective of creating a specific and comprehensive series of modules to train and to accelerate the University Leader’s Entrepreneurial Educators professional knowledge and skills development, three management staff from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) namely Mr. Mohd Sharil bin Abdullah, Prof. Dr. Shahrizal Sunar and Dr. Kew Si Na were selected by UTM Academic Leadership (UTMLead) to participate in the prestigious University Leader’s Entrepreneurial Educators Bootcamp (UNILeeB) organized by the Academy of Higher Education Leadership (AKEPT) in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).

Fully sponsored by UTM Innovation and Commercialisation Centre (ICC), the participation of these managers has been a catalyst to strengthen the university’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The program was successfully conducted from last year in serial which the first was from 25th till 28th November 2019 at UMK, the second from 9th till 12th March 2020 at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), and finally from 21st till 25th September 2020 at Primula Beach Hotel, Kuala Terengganu.

Besides providing comprehensive guidance and training for leadership development at various levels in higher education, the UNILeeB which is divided into three implementation phases namely “E-Mind: Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset”, “E-Lead: Change Leadership”, and “I-Bus: Innovation”, had also provided comprehensive curriculum toward development of entrepreneurs’ holistic skills and knowledge from entry level of social entrepreneurship start-up enterprises to Certified Social Entrepreneurial Innovator Coach. 

Overall, a total of 42 participants from 23 universities in Malaysia including public and private universities, were involved throughout the program. The involvement of managers from UTM is expected to replicate the success of their involvement in UNILeeB through Train-the-Trainer to produce greater champions in UTM.
