MELAKA, 13 April 2016 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)’s InnovaBoard team was declared overall champion of the  Microsoft ImagineCup Malaysia 2016. They were also the Winner for the Innovation category.

Microsoft ImagineCup is the world’s premier student technology competition which is open to students 16 years old and above. The Microsoft ImagineCup Malaysia 2016 was held in Melaka with three categories, namely, Games, Innovation and World Citizenship. (http://myimaginecup.com/)

The InnovaBoard team developed an interactive balance board to help people improve their balance. It incorporates interactive games and training programs to enable a more fun, interactive and enjoyable training experience.

More importantly, InnovaBoard is also able to predict the user’s risk of getting ankleinjuries and falling. The UTM team collaboration with the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM) and was supported by various organizations such as UTM, Cradle Coach and Grow (CGP), CREST and L2M.

The InnovaBoard team comprised Muhamamd Najib bin Abdullah, Muhammad Farhan bin Mustar and Muhamamad Nooralif bin Darsim. The team was supervised by Dr Yeong Che Fai and Mr Khor Kang Xiang.

As the winner for the Innovation category, the team will represent Malaysia at the Regional Finals for the Asia Pacific Region in June 2016. The team will compete for a spot to represent the region at the World Finals in July 2016 in Seattle, USA.

Another UTM team, MonJi won 1st Runner-up in the same Innovation category. The team comprised Bong Yu Liang, Kelvin Ling Chia Hiik, Liew Tian Chin, Ho Chun Yeen and supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid Husain. MonJi is an advanced recycling machine that allows users to recycle their items and claim redemptions using apps on the Windows phone platform.
