JOHOR BAHRU, 25 January 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has established the Strategy Management Office (SMO) to empower UTM strategic management by consolidating the structure and work processes related to planning, implementation and monitoring of strategies and data management in meeting the needs of UTM and its stakeholders.
The establishment of UTM SMO has been endorsed by the University Management Committee Meeting No. 2/2016 dated January 25, 2016.
UTM Vice Chancellor, Prof Datuk. Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar said the establishment of this office will further strengthen the university management strategies.
“The main role of this office is to become a reference center for the requirements and standards in relation to University Strategic Management including designing, developing and documenting corporate strategic planning.
“It will also be responsible for coordinating and implementing UTM strategic planning at all levels,” he said.
Prof. Wahid said the office will also be responsible for monitoring, evaluating and announcing UTM strategy performance besides identifying the needs and strategies to further enhance the ranking of the University.
Apart from the above functions, the office will also serve as the coordinator and liaison between UTM and the Program Management Office (PMO) at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
The University has also endorsed the appointment of Prof. Ir. Dr. Shahrin bin Mohammad as the Director of the UTM Strategy Management Office for a duration of two (2) years, commencing 1 February 2016 to 31 January 2018.
