JOHOR BAHRU, 30 May 2015 – A total of 33 students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Accounting Club, Faculty of Management were involved in community engagement with the Spastic Children’s Association of Johor
The main goal of the activity was to assist the association by organising a fair to raise funds to finance the cost of the special needs children under their care.
Programme Director, Norfatiha Ramli said she was profoundly moved when given  the opportunity to help children with special needs.
“Together with the staff who worked there, UTM student volunteers help run stalls and at the same time keep an eye on the children with special needs and also on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The students also did other general duties.”
Norfatiha said, in addition to helping the association to generate financial resources through the organised fair, the UTM students involved also collected money through donations collected on  campus, where they  managed to collect RM235.00 which was handed over to the association.
The Spastic Children’s Association of Johor Palsy Society, established in 1967, is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO). Its facilities in Johor Bahru include Special Education School, Rehabilition Center (Physiotherapy , Occupational and Speech Therapy), and Sheltered Workshop which caters for the needs of more than 150 children and adults with Cerebral Palsy. The centre is run by 40 full time staff and volunteers.
The society  receives partial grants from the government, with the rest of its operation funded through various fund raising activities and generous donations from the general public, individuals, companies and corporations.
