UTM LOW CARBON ASIA hosted a side event and exhibition at COP20 UNFCCC Lima Peru on Dec 2-12, 2014

UTM which is among several top environmental and climate change research universities, participated in the COP20 exhibition in Lima, Peru. UTM is proud to be among other top participating universities like Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, University of Michigan, University of California, Washington University, University of Texas (Austin), United Nation University (UNU) and University of East Anglia UK.

Apart from the 10 day exhibition, UTM also jointly hosted a side event with the National Institute of Environmental Studies (NIES) Japan on the theme ‘Realizing Low Carbon Societies in Malaysia and throughout Asia’. The side event showcased Science to Action (S2A) of Malaysian study cases focusing on the implementation of Low Carbon Societies (LCS) concept in Iskandar Malaysia and Putrajaya. In conjunction with the event, preliminary LCS action plans prepared by UTM- Kyoto University- NIES for five (5) local authorities (Johor Bahru , Johor Bahru Tengah, Pasir Gudang, Kulai and Pontian) were launched.

In addition, the ‘LCS Action Plan of Bikeable City’ and ‘Inventory for Building of Putrajaya Corporation’ were also launched as a follow up action of the earlier blueprint plan. In this side event, Prof Nordin Yahya gave the opening address on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of UTM followed by two(2) keynote addresses by HE Ambassador Horie Masahiro and Yg Bhg Dato Loo Tek Gee, Secretary General, Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTha ), and three( 3) panellists discussion by Prof Ho Chin Siong (Director of UTM-Low Carbon Asia centre), Yg Bhg Dato Omairi Hashim (Vice President, Putrajaya Corporation) and Dr Nishida ( Chief Planner, Tokyo Metropolitan Government). Once again, UTM is at the forefront of international climate change research in Malaysia focusing on Science to Action(S2A)
