JOHOR BAHRU, 25 November 2014 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) of Pakistan to enhance bilateral strategic relationship.

Mehran University was represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili and Dean of the Faculty of Electric, Electronic and Computer, Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry. while Senior Director of UTM International, Prof. Dr. Nordin Yahaya and Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Prof. Dr. Aizaini Maarof were the signatory on behalf of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Prof. Nordin said that MUET has three main faculties similar in focus with UTM. “The faculties are Faculty of Electric, Electronic and Computer, Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering and Faculty of Science Technology and Humanity,” he said.

Prof. Nordin added that several discussions have been held between the respective Deans and Dean Representatives of the engineering and architecture faculties. The aim of the deliberations  was to chart future potential collaboration between the two universities.

“Among the proposals include MUET mobilizing their academic staff to pursue their studies at UTM at the Post-Graduate level, sharing of facilities, exchanging of visiting professors, enhancing staff and student development, organizing joint international conferences and research collaborations.

“In fact, three MUET faculty have successfully completed their PhDs. Another three are still pursuing their PhDs, while one is studying at the Masters level at UTM,” said Prof. Nordin.

MUET which held its annual conference entitled International Multi Topic Conference,  invited Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shafie Abd Latiff from UTM Faculty of Computing as one of the keynote speakers in 2013.

“This shows that strong positive collaboration has been successfully forged, and I’m confident that it will continue to grow from strength to strength,” said Prof. Nordin.

Other higher learning institutions from Pakistan with an MoU with UTM include Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Riphah International University, Islamabad and Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Science (LUAWMS). B
