JOHOR BAHRU, 6 September – 607 new students of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia School of Professional and Continuing Education (UTMSPACE) have registered for the 2014/2015 academic session.

Registration was held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar, Johor Bahru campus and a welcoming address was given by Prof. Dr. Khairul Anuar Abdullah, Dean of UTMSPACE.

UTMSPACE Executive of Business Development Division, Norisah Shahrina Mohd Nordin said that 24 programmes have been offered at the September 2014 intake, which will be conducted at 10 learning centres throughout the country.

“These students will be following their respective programmes in various learning centres in Kota Bharu, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Miri (Sarawak) and Kerteh (Terengganu).

“Our programmes are opened to adult learners from a variety of backgrounds and ages. The programmes are particularly beneficial for those who want to enhance their career paths,” she said.

UTMSPACE has a unique academic system which requires all its students to attend ‘face to face’ lecture sessions, similar to the ones experienced by full-time students on campus. This is in contrast to the Distance Learning Programme (PJJ) run by the other universities.

Hence, the degrees that will be awarded to these part time students are of the same quality as that of their full-time counterparts.

“UTMSPACE requires each of its students to sit for the same examination paper besides having to go through the same academic learning hours as the mainstream students to ensure the quality of our programmes,” she said.

The UTMSPACE Engineering courses are the only Part Time Programmes in Malaysia accredited by the Board of Engineers (BOE).
