Kiswire Malaysia has contributed RM 3 million to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Endowment Fund for the establishment of a Professorial Chair at the University.
Kiswire, a leader in South Korea’s special steel wire industry, has endorsed the establishment of the Professorial Chair to further strengthen academic-industry research partnerships.
The establishment of the Professorial Chair will ensure that research activities conducted by UTM researchers at Kiswire in the area of Metallurgy and Manufacturing can be implemented sustainably.
A cheque amounting to RM 3 million was presented to the Vice-Chancellor of UTM, Professor Datuk Ir Dr Wahid Omar by Kiswire’s Executive Vice President, Mr Charles Lee Chang Woo, at UTM’s August assembly which was jointly held with the University’s Eid celebrations.
The contribution was made following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim and Kiswire’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Park Chang Hee in August 2013. In the said MoU, the official alliance between UTM and Kiswire was further extended for another 5 years.
Collaboration between UTM and Kiswire Malaysia has been established through the conduct of joint research, staff development in the form of Kiswire sending its staff to pursue postgraduate studies at UTM, and UTM staff attachment at Kiswire.
Kiswire also offers scholarships to UTM undergraduates.
