JOHOR BAHRU, June 23: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universitas General Achmad Yani (UNJANI), Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in academic, research and exchange of staff and students.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato ‘Ir Dr Zaini Ujang, said the agreement, which involved the Faculty of Management and Human Resource Development, UTM and the Faculty of Economy UNJANI is for five years.

Cooperation between UTM and UNJANI began last year through the deployment of academic staff from the university to pursue post-graduate programmes in Mathematics at the Faculty of Science.

“The cooperation between the two sides extended to FPPSM in relation to management, training development and delivery of volunteers to participate in community activities,” he said.

The signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the opening of the International Human Resource Development Conference 2011 at Mutiara Hotel, Johor Bahru.

UTM was represented by Professor Dr Zaini Ujang while UNJANI by its Rector, Drs. Major General (Rtd) Heriyono.

The UTM Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International, Professor Ir Dr Mohd Azraai Kassim, Head of Collaboration Department UNJANI Professor Dr Antono and Dean of the Faculty of Economics, UNJANI Professor Dr Ramli Mohammed Kurdi were present to witness the signing ceremony.

UNJANI, located in Bandung is a private university that is ranked the 22nd among more than 3,000 government-owned and private universities throughout Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Major General (Rtd) Heriyono said, he chose to work with UTM because the university has over 100 years of experience, especially in engineering, science and technology.

“Cooperation between UTM and UNJANI is moving in the positive direction and we want to strengthen it to further heights” he said.
